In order to become a United States Naval Sea Cadet, one has to be between 13 and 18 years of age. However, cadets between 10 1/2 and 13 are able to join as United States Naval League Cadets. 2. Are Sea Cadets required to serve in the military?
NO. Becoming a sea cadet doesn't commit you in any sense to joining the military. However, if you do choose to join one of the armed services, Sea Cadets are often able to enter at a higher pay grade.
3. What are the requirements to join the USNSCC?
In order to join the USNSCC, you have to be a US citizen, free of any felony convictions, enrolled in school, have parental consent, and be passing in school with at least a 2.0 GPA.

Sea Cadets study many topics related to naval sciences. They study history, customs, traditions, seamanship, navigation and other topics. Cadets learn how to become better adults in the future and skills that would help them in their future careers in the military should they decide to join. The enrollment fee to enter the program is $200 and the program costs $90 every year thereafter to renew enrollment. Many of the uniform items can be obtained free of charge from the unit but there are also miscellaneous items that one may have to purchase relating to uniforms. Also, there is an extra fee for training evolutions, which typically are around $150 but can be higher or lower than that depending on the specific training.
6. Will Sea Cadet training detract from my schoolwork?
This is very unlikely as Chesty Puller Battalion drills one weekend a month (typically 7:30AM - 2:30PM). In addition to this, there are only occasional events cadets must attend. Week-long Sea Cadet advanced trainings are during the summer and winter breaks so they will not interfere with school schedules.. Course work to move up in rank typically get done during school breaks for most cadets or as time permits on weekends. for committed high achieving cadets..

Promotions in the Sea Cadet Corps depend on merit and the completion of requirements for the next rank. Between ranks, cadets are required to accumulate a certain "time in rate" (or time spent at the previous rate), usually once every 6 months, complete training, and complete the necessary coursework. After finishing these requirements, they will be promoted upon approval.
